Proficiency
Swordsages are proficient with simple and martial weapons, as well as weapons associated with their six chosen disciplines. She is also proficient with light armor but not shields.
List of associated weapons.
Martial Adept
The Swordsage is the mystic warrior who wields extraordinary and supernatural capabilities. This is represented by her knowledge of martial maneuvers, as listed in the books Tome of Battle and Path of War. From between both books she may choose six styles to learn maneuvers and stances from.
Mechanics involved for using maneuvers, as well as their restrictions and similar minutiae use the rules writing of Path of War. HOWEVER the system of preparing and recovering maneuvers is different and outlined in this rules text instead.
Use the spells known and spells per day tables in the entry for Sorcerer (CRB) as the basis for advancement and uses of maneuvers. For example a swordsage gains the ability to use 2nd rank maneuvers at 4th level, 3rd rank at 6th etc.
You gain bonus maneuver slots based on your wisdom (initiation modifier) score just like spellcasters gains bonus spell slots. Every even level you may swap one maneuver you already know with another you can learn.
You recover your maneuver slots after 8 hours of rest, or a single maneuver slot after 1 hour of rest. This replaces the usual recovery mechanics.
Martial Stance
Martial Stances are a slightly different type of maneuver. They are bodily positions, mental foci and mystical states of being which grant benefits to the martial adept. Stances use the same rule mechanics as their counterpart in the Path of War rules text, with a few exceptions.
She can use Martial Stances a number of times a day equal to 1/2 initiator level plus her wisdom modifier. Each stance has a duration but can be ended early with a free action (link here). A swordsage can normally only have one stance active at a time, ending previous stances to start new ones. A new stance is learned at 1st, 2nd and every four levels thereafter, chosen from styles she has availible to her. Every even level she may swap a single stance she knows for another she is capable of learning based on her initiator level.
Example: A 6th level swordsage can learn a stance up to 3rd rank. At 8th level she may swap one stance for another she is capable of learning, up to 4th rank.
Discipline Style Focus
While the swordsage has six styles she can draw her abilities from, every swordsage comes from different backgrounds, having different combat preferences and techniques.
She chooses two of her styles as her Discipline Focus styles, and uses them for her Discipline Focus class feature. Further she chooses one maneuver from one of those styles and adds it to her maneuvers known.
Finally she chooses a bonus feat from the following list (she must meet the prerequisites):
Improved Unarmed Strike, Weapon Finesse, Power Attack, Two Weapon Fighting, Combat Expertise, Dirty Fighting, Combat Reflexes, Weapon Focus
Quick to Act
A swordsage learns how to harness her senses and bodily kinesthetics to empower her reaction speed. At 2nd level she gains a +1 insight bonus to initiative and a +1 dodge bonus to AC and CMD. This bonus increase by +1 at 6th level and every four levels thereafter. She cannot gain this benefit while wearing heavy armor or carrying a heavy load.
Evasion
At 2nd level and higher, a swordsage can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. If she makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, she instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if the swordsage is wearing light armor or no armor. A helpless swordsage does not gain the benefit of evasion. This becomes Improved Evasion at 9th level.
Discipline Focus
The swordsage's path to martial knowledge leads them down many different roads. Each swordsage chooses two of their six styles to focus on. At 3rd, 5th, 7th and every two levels thereafter the swordsage may add one maneuver from one of her focus styles as a maneuver known. She must select a maneuver she is capable of learning, and it cannot be swapped out like the rest of her maneuvers known.
Dual Stance
At 8th level, a swordsage learns how to combine the mental states, bodily positions and energy focusing of two stances into one. When she enters a stance, she may choose to enter two at the same time. She expends two uses of Martial Stance, and the stances benefits last only as long as the shortest duration between the two.
At 15th level, the swordsage's mastery of combining stances improves greatly. She need only expend one use of Martial Stance to use Dual Stance, and the effects each last for their respective durations; if one ends before the other she can continue to gain the benefit from the remaining stance.
Master of the Way
Attaining complete mastery of her craft, the swordsage blends techniques together into fluid, dynamic and deadly masterpieces of combat. She may enter three stances at once, gaining their benefits for the shortest duration between them, by spending two uses of martial stance. She may replace any attacks she makes with a strike maneuver that takes a standard action, even any of her iterative attacks using the bonuses for those attacks to resolve the strikes. (Example Note: Attacks made during a full attack, attacks of opportunity, attacks made with the Spring Attack feat, and similar. But not attacks that already come from a maneuver).
